There are many different versions of the story of Thieves oil. Essentially, what the stories have in common is a period of plague (in either the 15th or 17th century) during which the spice trade was shut down to limit spread of the disease. The spice traders, reacting to the decline in their business, resorted to robbing from the bodies of plague victims, which no one else wanted to touch. To prevent getting ill themselves, these traders turned thieves used a combination of spices in oil as protection.
doTERRA’s recipe for Thieves oil is in their ON Guard. This oil is what helps keep my family health and out of the doctor’s office all winter long. Not an easy feat when 2 of my daughters have chronic illnesses that causes a weakened immune system. However thus far we have prevailed!!!
ON GUARD is a blend of WILD ORANGE, CLOVE BUD, CINNAMON BARK, EUCALYPTUS RADIA, and ROSEMARY.
The oils in this blend have been studied for their strong abilities to kill harmful bacteria, mold, and viruses. To use it you can diffuse it into air, Massage on the bottoms of feet, throat, stomach, and intestines. Use with fractionated coconut oil when using on the skin other than on the bottoms of feet.
*Just a fun side note – I make a super yummy hot drink at Christmas with Orange, Clove, and Cinnamon, so I love the smell of this oil it reminds me of that drink*
